Deputy Head of Wardrobe - The Lion King UK

We are seeking a passionate and motivated individual to join the Wardrobe department for Disney’s The Lion King at London’s Lyceum.
As Deputy Head of Wardrobe, you’ll report to the Head of Wardrobe. Your focus will be on supporting the management, maintenance, and smooth operation of costumes and wardrobe operations during rehearsals and performances, ensuring every character looks their best on stage.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Assist the Head of Wardrobe to manage, supervise, and schedule members of the wardrobe team.
- Responsible for repairing costumes as instructed and maintaining the show's quality as dictated by the artistic requirements and under the direction of the Head of Wardrobe, Production Manager, and Creative Team.
- Perform daily setup and oversee wardrobe pre-sets.
- Ensure awareness of understudy and swing performances ahead of each show and make necessary adjustments.
- Ensure all costumes are maintained and cleaned so they are in working order for each performance.
- Assist the Head of Wardrobe to create accurate production paperwork and ensure the efficient flow of information as necessary for the smooth running of the show.
- Assist the Head of Wardrobe liaise between the Company Manager, Technical departments, Creative Team, Production and General Management Teams, and local venue staff to ensure the smooth running of all rehearsals and performances.
- Work in accordance with the Health and Safety Policy and maintain a good working knowledge of all relevant health and safety legislation and good working practices, liaising closely with Disney's Health and Safety Manager to ensure that the Health and Safety Policy is followed.
Skills Required
- Experience in a similar role within a large-scale musical production.
- Clear, confident communication and decision-making essential.
- Ability to remain focused and calm when under pressure during performances.
- Excellent relationship and interpersonal skills with cast, creative, and production team essential.
- Extensive knowledge of costume construction and ability to sew and alter garments.
- Understanding of different materials and components including silk, spandex, fabric surface painting, beading, and zippers.
- Knowledge of laundering and maintaining stage costumes.
- Knowledge and understanding of Health & Safety legislation.
