LX Followspot Operator - The Lion King, London

This upcoming role is an opportunity for a keen and motivated individual to join the Lighting department on Disney's The Lion King on a fixed-term basis. As an LX Followspot Operator you’ll report to the Head and Deputy Head of Lighting supporting with the day to day of running a large scale musical to maintain the excellence of the production.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Follow Spot Operator for performances covering four plots in the production, ensuring that the follow spot is maintained and functioning correctly and cues are performed as directed, replicating the show's lighting design.
  • Cover two stage LX plots as directed.
  • Ability to update, read and execute cue sheets for the stage or followspot plot.
  • Assist the Lighting Department to ensure the smooth running of all rehearsals and performances.
  • Assist the Lighting Department on any day-to-day changes that might impact the running of the Production.
  • Assist the Lighting Department to teach new members of staff, deps and local crews and work closely with theatre staff to ensure the smooth running of the production.
  • Perform daily set up and checks.
  • Ensure an awareness of understudy and swing performances ahead of each show and make necessary adjustments or use of contingency.
  • Ability to climb, working at height, and move scenery related to the Lighting department.
  • Learn and execute the tracks for the Lighting Department.
  • Attend rehearsal, technical, dress and understudy rehearsals as required.
  • Handle any problems that occur during performances quickly and calmly.
  • Report and feedback show and staff related issues in a timely manner.
  • Work in accordance with the Health and Safety Policy and maintain a good working knowledge of all relevant health and safety legislation and good working practices.
  • Liaise closely with Disney’s Health and Safety Manager to ensure that the Health and Safety Policy is followed.
  • Work closely and in conjunction with the Company Manager.

Skills Required

  • Background: 1+ years experience in a similar role operating follow spots and covering Stage LX plots on a large-scale musical production, working alongside an international cast, is highly desirable.
  • Technical Knowledge: Knowledge of setting up, maintaining, and operating followspots.
  • Working at Height: Comfortable with working at height as part of daily responsibilities.
  • Team Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to foster positive working relationships across departments.
  • Problem-Solving: Excellent initiative and practical problem-solving skills, particularly in high-pressure backstage situations.
  • Calm Under Pressure: Able to handle issues that arise during performances with focus, professionalism, and composure.
  • Communication: Clear and confident communicator, with the ability to make informed decisions and collaborate effectively with cast, creative, and production teams.
  • Health & Safety: Solid understanding of health and safety legislation relevant to the role, including LOLER, PUWER, and Working at Height regulations.

Additional Information

  • Contract Type: Fixed-Term.
  • Start Date: w/c 6th April 2026
  • Hours: 40 hours per week
  • Schedule: Tuesday to Sunday (evening and weekend show schedule)
  • Health & Safety: This role will require the candidate to understand and follow the Health and Safety Rules & Regulations at the production.
